Fujifilm X100V vs X100VI Recipes
How Fujifilm film simulation recipes built on the X100V's X-Trans IV sensor behave on the X100VI's X-Trans V sensor, which simulations you gain, what changes in Grain and Dynamic Range, and how to port a recipe between the two bodies.

What Actually Changed Between the X100V and X100VI
On paper the X100VI looks like a modest update: the same 23mm f/2 lens, the same body, the same hybrid viewfinder. For recipes, though, the differences matter more than the spec sheet suggests. The X100V pairs a 26MP X-Trans IV sensor with X-Processor 4. The X100VI pairs a 40MP X-Trans V sensor with X-Processor 5, and adds in-body image stabilisation.
The processor generation, not the megapixel count, is what governs which film simulations and settings appear in the menu. That is why a recipe written for the X100V will almost always load on an X100VI, while a recipe written for the X100VI may reference options the X100V simply does not have.

Film Simulation Differences: REALA ACE and Nostalgic Neg
Two simulations are exclusive to the X100VI: REALA ACE and Nostalgic Neg. Both arrived with X-Processor 5 and neither has a firmware path onto the X100V, so any recipe built on either one is X100VI-only. That is the whole of the simulation gap. Everything else is common to both bodies.
REALA ACE sits between PRO Neg Std and Classic Negative in character: gentle contrast, flattering skin tones, believable greens. If you are moving from an X100V and want the closest starting point, begin with PRO Neg Std recipes and nudge saturation up slightly rather than trying to force Classic Negative into the same role. Nostalgic Neg is the amber-heavy, 1970s-album look. On the X100V the usual stand-in is Classic Chrome or Velvia with a strongly warm white balance shift (7000K and up, with red pushed positive), close in mood though not a true match.
There is a third gap that is easy to miss because it is not about the processor: the X100V has no Eterna Bleach Bypass either. That simulation arrived with the X-T4, after the X100V shipped, so the X100V's menu goes straight from Eterna to ACROS. It does not block X100V recipes going forward, but it does block X100VI recipes coming back.
Everything else in the X100V's simulation menu (Provia, Velvia, Astia, Classic Chrome, Classic Negative, PRO Neg Std, PRO Neg Hi, Eterna, ACROS with its three filter variants, Monochrome with the same three, and Sepia) is present on the X100VI too, so the vast majority of X100V recipes transfer directly.
Settings That Behave Differently
Grain Effect
Both bodies offer Grain Effect with Strength and Size. At 40MP the grain pattern on the X100VI is rendered over four times as many pixels, so the same "Strong / Large" setting reads finer when you view images at the same output size. If an X100V recipe felt perfectly gritty, expect to keep the strength and consider stepping the size up rather than down on the X100VI.
Color Chrome Effect and Color Chrome FX Blue
Available on both bodies, and behaviour is broadly consistent. Values transfer without adjustment.
Clarity
Available on both. On the X100V, Clarity introduces a noticeable processing pause after each frame; the X100VI's faster processor shortens it. If you avoided Clarity on the X100V for that reason, it is worth revisiting on the X100VI.
Dynamic Range and D-Range Priority
Both bodies offer DR100, DR200, and DR400, plus D-Range Priority (Auto / Weak / Strong), and on both, D-Range Priority locks out Highlight and Shadow adjustment entirely. The one thing that does move is the ISO floor, because it is derived from base ISO: DR200 needs one stop above base and DR400 needs two. The X100V's base ISO is 160, so it gates at ISO 320 and ISO 640. The X100VI's base ISO is 125, so it gates at ISO 250 and ISO 500, slightly more room before the DR setting forces your hand.
Sensor behaviour matters too. Because the X100VI's sensor holds highlight detail slightly better, recipes that leaned on DR400 to protect skies on the X100V often look better on the X100VI at DR200 with a Highlight setting of -1. Try the gentler combination first before assuming the recipe needs the stronger one.
Porting an X100V Recipe to the X100VI
Work through this in order. Most recipes need only the first two steps.
- Enter the recipe exactly as written into a custom setting slot (C1–C7). Every value from an X100V recipe has a direct equivalent on the X100VI.
- Shoot a familiar scene and compare. Differences you notice will usually be in noise character and grain scale, not colour.
- If the grain looks too fine, step Grain Size from Small to Large, keeping Strength as written.
- If highlights look flatter than you remember, drop from DR400 to DR200 and set Highlight to -1.
- If high-ISO frames look cleaner than intended and the recipe relied on sensor noise for texture, raise Grain Strength one step rather than raising ISO.
Going the other way, X100VI to X100V, the hard blockers are the three simulations the X100V does not have. For REALA ACE, substitute PRO Neg Std, add +1 to Color, and leave the rest of the recipe untouched. For Nostalgic Neg, substitute Classic Chrome and warm the white balance shift heavily. For Eterna Bleach Bypass, start from Eterna, drop Color to around -4 and raise Highlight and Shadow together to rebuild the contrast the bleach bypass look depends on. Every other value carries across unchanged.
Which Recipes Suit Which Body
Best on the X100V: high-contrast Classic Chrome and Classic Negative street recipes, where the 26MP sensor's slightly coarser noise adds texture that suits the look. Grain-heavy ACROS recipes also read particularly well at this resolution.
Best on the X100VI: REALA ACE portrait and travel recipes, Nostalgic Neg recipes of any kind, low-light work that benefits from IBIS and the cleaner high-ISO response, and any recipe you plan to crop heavily, since 40MP leaves far more room.
Equally good on both: the majority. Eterna, Astia, Classic Chrome, and Velvia recipes transfer with no adjustment at all.
